A CHARITY which helps young families has become the latest to receive a Carbon Stoppers’ donation.

Grateful: Wendy Staples (left) and Jo Oldale of Home-Start South East Dorset receive the £250 Carbon Stoppers’ donation from Yellow Buses’ Sally Spicer.

Home-Start South East Dorset is a voluntary organisation offering support, friendship and practical assistance to families at home with at least one child under five.

Launched in 1973, the organisation has grown to more than 300 schemes nationwide with more than 8,000 volunteers visiting over 20,000 families. The Bournemouth scheme was set up in 1995.

Wendy Staples, Scheme Manager, said the £250 Carbon Stoppers’ donation was “very welcome.”

She added: “It’s so encouraging to be nominated and we’re very grateful to the Daily Echo and Yellow Buses for choosing our charity.

“The money will go to support our work with local families, helping them to overcome some of the difficulties involved in raising children.”

Carbon Stoppers was launched five years ago and has now raised £11,750 for 48 charities and good causes.

Each week Yellow Buses holds a ‘Thank You Thursday’ when every trip taken by passengers on the day contributes to a separately administered Community Chest.

The bus company has pledged a minimum donation of £50 per week to the Carbon Stoppers fund with Daily Echo readers invited to nominate worthy recipients.

Apart from Home-Start South East Dorset, other Carbon Stopper recipients over the last five years include Bournemouth Talking Newspaper, Dorset & Somerset Air Ambulance, Cherry Tree Nursery, Life Education Wessex, Hospital Radio Bedside, Waggy Tails Rescue, Bournemouth People First, Nile 20, Rebound Gym Club, Caring Canines, Pink Champagne Dragon Boat Team, S.P.R.I.N.G, Bournemouth Food Bank, Help & Care, thehub Goes Global, 2 Close Together, PHA-UK, Bournemouth Concert Brass, Everyman, East Dorset Alzheimer’s Society, Dorset Rape Crisis Line, Fernheath Play Association, Brendoncare, Diverse Abilities Plus, Coping with CHAOS, Dorset ME Support Group, Somerford Children’s Centre, Springbourne Family Centre, LV=Streetwise, Everyman, Vita Nova, Bournemouth & Poole Bipolar Self-Help Group, The Gunstone Trust, Wimborne in Bloom, Bournemouth Young Carers, BCHA, Avonbourne College’s Shelley Project, La Leche League, Seabrook Seals Open Water Swimming Group, Poole and District Children’s Cancer Fund, Who Let The Dad’s Out, the Royal National Lifeboat Institution, The CRUMBS Project in Boscombe, Amelia-Grace Rainbow Fund, Pictures of Success, Mothers That Care and The Jon Egging Trust.
