TALENTED wordsmith Judy Clegg felt the love of Yellow Buses (YB) when she won an annual contest to ‘beat the bus bard.’
Judy, who read about the competition in the Daily Echo, was presented with a bouquet of flowers and a box of chocolates as well as a Glo smartcard with 30 days’ free travel.
The Yellows challenged budding writers to pen a poem as part of the bus company’s preparations for Valentine’s Day.
Judy was picked as the winner after writing a two stanza poem which will appear in thousands of Valentine cards.
The cards, together with red roses and Love Hearts sweets, will be presented to passengers this Friday, the day before Valentine’s Day.
Judy, who is retired and lives at Blandford St Mary, said: “I enjoy writing poems and have entered lots of competitions but this is the first one that I’ve won.
“It’s brilliant to have won and I’m absolutely amazed and very happy.”
Jenni Wilkinson, YB’s Head of Marketing, said: “We had a record number of entries this year after challenging people to beat the bus bard. The age of romance is certainly not dead.
“Judy’s poem really stood out and she now has the satisfaction of seeing her name printed in thousands of Valentine Day cards.”
Judy’s poem reads:
Waiting at the bus stop I see you every day
but you get on a different bus and go the other way
I’d really like to tell you that you have a lovely smile
perhaps I’ll get the other bus and go the extra mile
I would even share my seat if you would sit with me
or if there’s only standing room I’d offer you my knee
so let us hope our Yellow Bus will bring us close together
and you will be my Valentine and I’ll be yours forever
